Evelyn I. Carroll, 90, of Decatur passed away Saturday July 21, 2012 at Heartland Health Care in Decatur.
Graveside services to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday July 24, 2012 at Macon Cemetery in Macon. Visitation for Evelyn will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 24, 2012 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Macon.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Evelyn was born on November 14, 1921 near Argenta, IL, the daughter of Edgar and Vina Hinton Likins. She married LeRoy Carroll on September 11, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1967. She married Dell Carroll on November 14, 1974 and he preceded her in death in 1996. Evelyn was a member of Mound Road Christian Church. She was owner and operator along with her husband LeRoy of the Night Owl Restaurant and Motel in Oreana for many years, and then was associated with her second husband Dell, with the Night Owl in Macon. Evelyn and Dell loved to travel, Evelyn traveled around the world three times.
Evelyn is survived by three sisters: Marilyn Babb of Macon, Donna Gregory of Decatur and Jackie Lummus of Macon; two brothers: John Likins and wife Colleen of Decatur and Ronald Likins and wife of Jan of Cerro Gordo; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and two sisters.

My condolences, as feelings of pain and bitterness become unbearable. It is my desire to convey a comforting thought based on the Holy Scriptures
John 5:28 "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out."
This passage speaks of the resurrection of our loved ones. It is not God's plan to see us suffer and die, so He extends the following invitation to us: "Come near to God and He will draw near to you" (James 4:8)

In 1999 my daughter received one of the Evelyn and Dell Carroll scholarships awarded each year to students at Meridian High School. Sarah completed her nursing degree in 2003 and received her Nurse Practitioner degree in 2006. Evelyn's generosity has helped many students realize their educational goals. May she rest in peace.
